Scott and Bethany met after exchanging messages online for a couple of weeks. Bethany was first to message Scott, and Scott was first to ask about getting dinner sometime. On July 5, 2007, Scott bravely made the way to Bethany's door to pick her up for their date. The first of many dinners to follow was at O'Charley's. While neither Scott nor Bethany can tell you what they talked about on their first date, they do remember returning to Scott's apartment after dinner where Bethany passed her first "test" by not immediately leaving after watching Orgazmo. They also played Wii, where Bethany dominated in boxing (and continues to dominate). They then returned to Bethany's apartment where Scott passed his first "test" by not running out the door after meeting Parker. The night ended when Scott returned home to get some sleep before his early morning began at work. They saw a movie together 4 days later, and soon became inseparable.
Scott and Bethany officially became a couple on July 16, 2007, and over 5 months later Scott proposed in the early morning hours of December 22, 2007. The previous day, Scott had asked for a box because he had something to wrap, but it couldn't be opened until they got home Friday night. Being the nosy person that Bethany is, she peeled open one end of the wrapping paper and attempted to see what was in the box, only to find a piece of paper. Re-wrapping the gift without reading the paper, she tried to persuade Scott to let her open it all day on the 21st, but to no avail.
Friday night Scott had a game to broadcast at Eisenhower. Bethany went with Scott to the game where she wrote poetry, including "Roses are red, violets are blue. Pave settings are nice, but a solitaire will do!" Unknown to Bethany, Scott had already purchased a ring and had it in his coat pocket. After the game, Bethany and Scott met some friends at the Winery. Returning to Bethany's apartment after midnight, Scott finally let Bethany open the box. As she unwrapped it, she discovered a note inside from Scott. Reading the letter and looking up from it, Scott was on one knee holding an opened box with an engagement ring. Not only did Scott manage to buy an engagement ring without Bethany's knowledge, but he also had a bottle of wine waiting in the refrigerator, which Bethany failed to see the previous day.
