How we got engaged

We were on a camping trip, our first camping trip ever. And just for the record, my two absolute favorite hobbies: 1) camping, and 2) John (not necessarily in that order!!). Monday night when we got to the campground, he wanted to build the fire, so I went around gathering wood, sticks, and leaves. Our fire didn't burn very well, but then, neither of us were boy scouts :-P The next night, he said he had to leave the campground to get a few things for us to stay another night. He told me I should stay at the campsite to make sure no one stole our tent (I was more concerned about that fact that he was afraid someone would steal a tent!!!) but I stayed and "protected" our site. While he was gone, I gathered more wood, sticks, and leaves for another campfire.

About a half hour later, he returned with a few bottles of Gatorade. He sat at the picnic table and didn't say much. I began building the fire - and was rather surprised that he wasn't as eager to help me. He just sat at the picnic table quietly. I asked him a few times if he was ok, thinking maybe he wasn't feeling well. He said he was fine and that he was just admiring me while I worked on the fire. Then he asked me how I would feel if the next time we went camping, he proposed to me. I was a little bummed because I had hoped that he would have proposed to me, but I said something to the effect of "yeah that'd be cool" (I know that sounds stupid, but I can't remember what I said exactly). I continued to work on the fire. Then he said, "Come over here and kiss me." I noticed his hands were in his pockets, and I hoped that he would take his hands out and present a ring(!), but when I went over to give him a kiss, he just wrapped his arms around me and gave me a kiss. I was really bummed, but didn't want to let it show. I went back to the fire, my back towards him, just to get away so he wouldn't see my "hurt." Then he said, what would you do if I asked you to marry me right now? At first I thought he was joking. Then I turned towards him and saw that he was down on one knee with a diamond ring..... So far, the happiest day of my life :)
